When we started to go out....

I met Jeanette at Wirral Met College in 1987, we both enrolled on a secretarial course, I talk to anyone, so I started to talk to Net, she ignored me! Cheek. I realised then, no matter how bubbly and confident she is, she relaxes when she has taken in the environment, sussed out who you are etc. It turned out, we lived close to each other. That was it. We became really close and really good friends,it doesnt matter that we didnt see much of each other over the last 7 years or so, we never fell out. In our college days, I used to ring her at 9pm and say 'lets go out'. I put on my crushed velvet dress with a V in the back (Net helped me pick this) and we would go out for a couple of hours to the Grand or Chelsea Reach. Being single, we were on the look-out - being us 2 though, we spent more time laughing instead of getting chatted up. We took college serious and had a great time.....our student pub was the Carlton. We spent many a lunch hour and evening in there and had lots of snogs there at Christmas! We used to get the number 10 bus to college, I remember one day getting on the bus and ending up in Eastham. Our free bus pass didnt take us that far but the bus driver thought it was that funny, he let us off. We eventually got back to college at lunch time. Nettie worked in Famous Army and Navy stores in Wallasey whilst we were in college. When I think back, we treated the place like it was a family business! Popping in and out of Wallasey and Birkenhead one. Flirting with her boss (who now happens to be one of my dearest friends big brother!) - he is a good 11 years older than us, I think he just thought we were amusing 18 year olds. Whoops, just had a flash back of my 18th. Must dig out some photos! On 14 April 1989 we went out and that night Nettie introduced me to Alan. Alan and Netties family were friends (holidays together as children) and from then on that was it. Thanks to Nettie, we married the year later and Nettie, Keith and Liz all came to our wedding. I think Nettie wore navy blue flowered dress! When we started working, we both worked in town and used to meet after work (I used to hike up to PKF to meet her) and we would go out. When she lived down South for a while, we used to write (no email in those days) and now I wish I had kept our letters. I lent her a book once, one of my favourites..never got it back. She laughed when I last asked her. I think it was left at the bottom of Elaine and Yvonne's wardrobe when she moved out. Net and Pete's wedding was one of the hottest days ever, and you had SOUP for your starter - sweat was dripping off the guests. You did the right thing though, you did the speeches before the food. Most of the guests spent the time coming in and out of the sun. We danced that night, my we danced. It was an absolutely fabulous day and night, great memories. We used to keep in touch by phone and the odd visit when she went to her mums. Nettie and the girls came to see us in March 2006 not long after we had Thomas. I have a few lovely pictures of this too. In November 2008 I was 40. Nettie and Pete came to my party, you were so loved up, it was great. If I had known then that would be the last time we saw her....At least the memories are happy. I hope this memorial makes you smile. With love, Alison, Alan and Thomas xxx
